ORDINANCE NO. 422(1
AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF BABY
RABBITS, CHICKS, GOSLINGS, DUCKLINGS OR OTHER
FOWL FOR NON - POULTRY PURPOSES, AS PLAYTHINGS,
NOVELTIES OR FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I, It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to sell or offer
for sale, barter, or give away baby rabbits, chicks, goslings, ducklings or other
fowl as pets or novelties. This ordinance shall not be construed to prohibit the sale
or display of natural chicks or ducklings in proper brooder facilities by hatcheries
or stores engaged in the business of selling them to be raised for commercial purposes.
SECTION I I, Any violation of these provisions or failure to comply with any of said
provisions, shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed Three Hundred ($300. 00) Dollars
or by imprisonment not to exceed thirty (30) days, or both, and each day such violation
shall continue shall be deemed a separate and distinct offense.
SECTION III. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage by the Common Council, its approval by the Mayor and the fulfillment of
all statutory requirements relating thereto.
