AN ORDINANCE AMiENDING ORDINANCES NO. 2243 AND NO. 3208 COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE BUILDING CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana: SECTION I: That the following Sections of Ordinance No. 3208, commonly known as the Plumbing Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, which code is now a part of Ordinance No. 2243, commonly known as the Building Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana: be amended as noted so that such Sections of said Ordinance No. 3208 shall hereafter be and read as follows: SECTION II: Change Section 52 of the aforesaid Ordinance to read as follows: Section 52: When computing the size of house drains, soil and waste stacks, mains and branches, fifty (50) square feet of roof or yard area in horizontal projection shall count as one fixture. Three feet of urinal trough or wash sink shall count as one fixture. One bath. basin or sink or smaller fixture shall count as one fixture. One water closet shall count as four fixtures. SECTION II: Section 52: (Cont'd) Providing that the number of water closets on any soil pipe, with or without other fixtures, shall never exceed the number given in either of the last two columns. The number of fixtures in a building shall determine the size of the house drain and the combined area of the soil or waste stacks shall in no case be less than the area of the house drain. SECTION III: Change Section 56 of the aforesaid Ordinance to read as follows: Section 56: All building drains in all cases where new buildings are erected end constructed in the city of South Bend, Indiana, shall be either of six (6) inch glosed tile, or five (5) inch standard cost iron soilpipe as is known in commerce. The soil stacks from immediately above the basement or lowest floor must be extra heavy cost iron pipes, galvanized wrought iron pipes, galvanized mild steel pipes, or copper tube no less in wall thickness than that specified in "Standard Specifications for Copper Drainage Tube (DWV)" issued by the Copper and Brass Research Assoc- iation, March 7, 1956. SECTION IV: Change Section 57 of the aforesaid Ordinance to read as follows: Section 57: The inside diameter of the trap and waste branches for a given fixture shall never be less than the following: Size in Inches.
