STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Morris Performing Arts Center Improvement Fund (Fund No. 416) was
established for the purposes of renovating, remodeling, or otherwise improving the
facilities at the Morris Performing Arts Center. The Morris Performing Arts Center desires
to make certain capital improvements that will enhance its status as an efficient, updated
performing arts facility. These proposed capital expenditures include $7,500 for box office
equipment that will complete the box office renovation process; $2,000 for a box office
safe to safely and adequately store the revenues received in the box office; $500 for a
wheelchair which the Morris Performing Arts Center does not currently own; and $8,000
for new office furniture to accommodate the growing staff and to fill the planned future
office space at the facility.
The Common Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the City of
South Bend to appropriate the requested funds from the Morris Civic Improvement Fund
(Fund No. 416) for the requested purchase of equipment, renovation, and restoration costs.

Re: Morris Performing Arts Center Capital Improvement Appropriations Ordinance
Dear Ms. Pfeifer,
I attach for filing with the South Bend Common Council an Ordinance requesting an
appropriation of $18,000 within the Morris Performing Arts Center Improvement Fund
(Fund 416). Revenues from this fund are generated by the ticket surcharge and the
fund is used exclusively for capital improvements such as renovation, remodeling, and
specifically here, equipment to improve the facilities.
The improvements for which the Morris Performing Arts Center desires appropriation
consist of the following:
$7,500 Box Office Equipment. Following our previous approval for
funds for the physical box office renovation, funds are now
desired for the box office equipment to complete the renovation
process. Funds will be used to purchase such equipment as ticket
printers, two new computers, label printers and software licenses.
These improvements will not only complete the renovation, but
will improve the customer service capabilities in the facility.
$2,000 Box Office Safe. Anew safe is needed for the box office to meet
the increased needs of the box office and to protect the facilities
in light of the increased traffic throughout the theater. The
current safe lacks the basic safety requirements required for the
amount of revenues received through the box office.
$500 Facility Wheelchair. Required for use in an emergency. The
facility does not currently own a wheelchair.
$8,000 Office Furniture. To accommodate the needs of the growing
staff beginning January 1St, the facility needs more desks and
chairs. This furniture will be purchased to fit into the future
office space next to the box office.

The Morris Performing Arts Center requests the Council's approval of this
Ordinance that will benefit the City and its citizens.
Sincerely, ~._,,
