AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND APPROPRIATING $508,000 FROM THE
SELF-INSURANCE FUND (FUND N0.226)
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In order to finalize settlement of pending cases, an additional appropriation from the Self-
Insurance Fund (Fund No. 226) is needed. The additional sum of $508,000 from the Self-
Insurance Fund will permit the settlement and finalization of outstanding litigation which
culminated during the calendar year 2000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I: The sum of $508,000 is hereby appropriated from the Self-Insurance Fund
(Fund No. 226) for the payment of settlements to conclude outstanding litigation which has
concluded during the calendar year 2000.
Section II: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the
Common Council and approval by the Mayor.

Dear President Pfeifer:
Attached for filing with the South Bend Common Council please find an ordinance which
will authorize the appropriation of an additional $508,000 from the Self-Insurance Fund. This
additional appropriation will permit the City of South Bend to conclude settlements in litigation
that have recently been concluded during calendar year 2000.
As a follow up to my voice mail message, I would be happy to meet with the Council in an
Executive Session during the afternoon Common Council Caucus Session scheduled for Monday,
September 25, 2000. Please let me know if you would like me to appear at such a session.
