AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE USE OF METER MAIDS
ON STREETS AND SIDEWALKS IN THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND AND THE JURISDICTION OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE
OVER SAID METER MAIDS..
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND
SECTION I. That Meter Maids shall be con - commissioned
personnel under the jurisdiction of the Chief of
Police, who shall be responsible for their super-
vision and direction. Their duties shall be to
patrol assigned areas during periods designated,
and they are empowered to enforce all parking
regulations, and those ordinances pertaining to
pedestrians and bicycles; to issue violation tickets
or notices on forms prescribed by the Department;
to answer inquiries and give directions to the public
and to be of service within the range of the job as-
signment; to observe, record and report defective
or damaged meters; and to perform such other
duties as are related to those enumerated. They
shall not be police officers and shall have no. police
powers to arrest. They shall wear a uniform pre-
scribed by the Chief of Police. The Meter Maids `
salaries, uniforms and any and all other cost of
operation shall be reimbursed from the Parking
Meter receipts.
SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage by the Common Council, its
approval by the Mayor, and the fulfillment of all
statutory requirements.
