(South Bend, IN) Councilman Henry Davis, Jr., (2nd District) will participate in a
ceremony to name a new softball/baseball field in honor of a local community servant.
The field will be named Seabe Gavin, Sr. Youth Baseball/Softball Field to solidify the
legacy of the Gavin family but also to afford the local youth a new opportunity for
recreation. The field located at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Recreational Center has
been underutilized and underfunded for a decade and a half and through city funds and
countless contributions from local donors the field will once again serve as a true asset
for the west side community.
"It is always a humbling experience and honor to give thanks and accolades to the
trailblazers before me. As crime continues to be an issue in the South Bend community
it is also imperative that our children are provided with the best opportunity, assets and
accommodations to help deter them from crime," says Councilman Henry.Davis, Jr.
The ceremony will begin tomorrow April 12, 2014 at 10:00am at the Martin Luther
King Jr., Recreational Center with an introduction from the Riley High School Jr.
ROTC and works of expression from US Senator Joe Donnelly and South Bend
