Kingly succession set at the Redevelopment Commission

Mayor Stephen J. Luecke’s new appointment to the City’s Redevelopment Commission
will assure that the body charged with addressing economic development in target areas
will have a Kingly succession.
Nancy N. King, vice president and trust officer for Indiana Trust & Investment
Management Co., will succeed Karl G. King, the former Common Council member who
has served on the Redevelopment Commission since October 2004. The Kings are not
related.
Nancy King, who is a South Bend resident with a wide range of community involvement
and leadership as well recognition for her work in helping others, has been sworn in and
will begin her duties at today’s meeting (Oct. 17).
“Nancy brings the kind of broad-based experience in community organizations coupled
with her banking and finance expertise that will make her an invaluable member of the
Redevelopment Commission,” Luecke said. “The Redevelopment Commission’s role is

crucial as South Bend prepares itself to be a center for innovation in a 21-century
research- and innovation-based economy.”
A board member of several key community institutions, King has served as president of
the South Bend Community School Corp. Board of Trustees (member 1990-94),
president of the YWCA of St. Joseph County Board of Directors (member 1988-present)
as well as a member of the boards for the Morris Performing Arts Center, the Community
Foundation of St. Joseph County and The Public Education Foundation Inc.
In her professional life before joining Indiana Trust & Investment Management Co. in
2004, King served from 1996 to 2003 as senior vice president and chief administrative
officer of St. Joseph Capital Bank (now Old National Bank) in Mishawaka and as a
regional manager of personal trust for St. Joseph Bank & Trust (now Key Bank) in South
Bend.
King has received five communitywide awards:

YWCA Woman of the Year for education (1995)

Drum Major Community Service Award from the City of Mishawaka (2002)
?
The Athena Award from the South Bend/Mishawaka Chamber of Commerce
(2002). The Athena Award honors an individual for assisting women in
developing their leadership potential, community service involvement and
exemplary business standing.

The Vision Award for Women from the Healthy Communities Initiative of St.
Joseph County (2003).
?
The Community Service and Civil Rights Award from the Urban League of South
Bend and St. Joseph County (2004).
A graduate of Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, King has a master’s degree from
Indiana University South Bend and certification as a trust and financial advisor through
the Institute of Certified Bankers.
Other voting members of the Redevelopment Commission include Marcia I. Jones, chair;
Gregory S. Downes; Hardie Blake Jr. and David Varner, who also is a Common Council

representative from the 5 District. Ann Rosen is a non-voting member, representing the
South Bend Community School Corp.
The Redevelopment Commission meets the first and third Fridays of each month at 10
