SOUTH BEND - The Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. (NNN) invites you to the 6

Annual Arts Café on Sunday, November 2 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

There will be six houses open to the community, showcasing the distinctive character of
area homes and providing a unique backdrop for local artists, musicians, and culinary
specialists to share their diverse talents.
The walking tour will revisit Cottage Grove Avenue, between Lindsey Street and
Lincoln Way West, highlighting NNN’s continued progress. This year’s event holds a
couple of firsts: a house move and a Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County built
home. The quaint house located at 604 Cottage Grove previously sat on the small lot,
within a few feet of the alley at 612 Cottage Grove. The NNN is excited to have been
able to preserve this home by moving it to a location where it has a street presence and
some elbow room. The NNN was also able to partner with Habitat for Humanity of St.
Joseph County in order to introduce the first two-story Habitat for Humanity home in
St. Joseph County! Both of these homes will be open for the event.
Not only does Arts Café provide a chance to see the hidden beauty of these older homes,
but it gives participants the opportunity to celebrate local talent. The homes and tents
that line the walk will be adorned with area artists’ work featuring everything from
watercolor, pottery, photography, and jewelry, in addition to culinary delights --- all of
which will be available for sale. Local musicians will add to the atmosphere, providing
music throughout the route for your pleasure; don’t forget to take a break at one of the
main stages, located under the tents located on both ends of Cottage Grove, to enjoy the
music. There will also be interactive artistic opportunities for children sponsored by
HealthWorks.
Make your first stop the Welcome Tent, at the corner of Cottage Grove Avenue and
Lindsey Street, and pick up an event brochure and map. Arts Café is a free community
event. Event parking is free.
This annual event continues to get bigger and better each year. Starting as a small
neighborhood holiday bazaar it has grown into a community wide event, showcasing
some of the many great elements of the near northwest neighborhood, in just six years!
During 2007, Arts Cafe attracted more than 1,000 people and highlighted over 60 artists,
musicians and culinary specialists. Event organizers anticipate even more participants
and area residents in attendance this year!
This event, in its sixth year, is sponsored by the Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc., a
non-profit community development corporation that is dedicated to the preservation
and revitalization of the near northwest neighborhood.
