RESOLUTION NO. 3 ~ ~~
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
PUBLICLY COMMENDING AND HONORING HOMETOWN HERO LEROY DIXON FOR
PARTICIPATING IN THE 2008 SUMMER OLYMPICS HELD IN
BEIJING, CHINA
~~~~, the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX
Olympiad, took place in Beijing, People's Republic of China from August 6`" through August 24, 2008;
with a total of 10,500 athletes participating who represented 204 nations in 302 events; and
"~~, the United States of America was represented in the 2008 Summer Olympics by 596
athletes, one of which included our own hometown hero, Leroy Dixon; and
"~-, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is especially proud to
recognize that on June 20, 1983, Leroy Dixon was born in South Bend to Sherlyn and Leroy Dixon, Sr.,
and graduated from LaSalle High School in 2002 where he lettered in track, basketball and football; and
"~., Leroy Dixon went on to study at the Kansas City Community College and at the
University of South Carolina, where he earned his first All-American certificate in the 2005 NCAA
Outdoor Championships; and
"~., in 2007, Leroy Dixon was the World Outdoor 4 x 100m gold medalist and earned a spot
on the Team USA 4 x 100m relay pool for the 2007 World Outdoor Championships in Osaka, Japan,
where he earned a gold medal by running the anchor leg for Team USA during the opening round of
competition in Osaka and in the final, carrying the baton across the finish line and stopping the clocks in
37.78 seconds, which was the fastest time in the world in 2007; and
"~f~.,~, the Common Council acknowledges that the United States of America won 110 medals
in this year's Olympics with 36 being bronze, 38 being silver, and 36 being gold; and is especially proud
to further acknowledge that Leroy Dixon, as a member of the USA 4 x 100m Men's Relay Team.

Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common
Council hereby publicly commends and honors our own hometown hero, Leroy Dixon, for his excellent
work ethics, his dedication and discipline, and his superior athletic abilities as evidenced by participating
in the Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China.
Section II. The South Bend Common Council is especially proud to recognize and honor Leroy
Dixon, who has brought the highest of honors to himself; his family and friends; and the City of South
Bend, Indiana. The Common Council sincerely wishes Leroy Dixon continued success.
