Annual Conference Begins in South Bend on Sunday

Indianapolis, IN – The 108 Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) Annual Conference
and Exhibition begins Sunday, Oct. 12, as municipal officials, including mayors, clerk-treasurers
and council members descend upon South Bend to adopt the Association’s legislative agenda,
elect officers and attend educational workshops.
This year’s theme is Mission: Possible and will highlight more than 20 educational workshops
and seminars, the IACT Annual Awards Luncheon honoring municipal achievement and an
Exhibit Hall with 138 businesses and vendors that provide services to municipal government.

The host city South Bend will conduct mobile workshops showcasing 21 century technology
that is making economic and environmental sense and will showcase how forming public private
partnerships have spurred economic development opportunities throughout the city.
More than 500 municipal officials will attend the conference, making it the state’s largest
gathering of municipalities. More than 1,000 officials and business representatives will be in
South Bend.

IACT members will adopt the Association’s policy resolutions at the conference, which outline
IACT’s positions on such issues as local government funding, public safety pensions,
environmental infrastructure, land use and economic and community development.
IACT’s two main missions are to provide education and training to the State’s more than 4,000
municipal officials and staff, and to influence the state legislature in the area of laws and policies
that affect municipal government. Each year, the Association’s members develop an agenda for
which municipal officials will seek legislation at the Indiana Statehouse.
The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) is a coalition of municipal officials who seek
to improve the quality of life in Indiana through effective government, and is a member of the
National League of Cities. Founded in 1891, IACT is one of the oldest state municipal
organizations in the country, with 464 cities and towns as members. IACT advocates for
municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good
government through education, training and leadership.
