Emergency, Downtown Traffic Signal Repair Schedule
At approximately 7:30 pm, last night, Sunday, October 5 the traffic signal at the corner of
Michigan St. (State Hwy 933 North) and LaSalle was accidentally knocked down by a semi truck
driving through the area. The intersection has been setup with temporary flashing lights and stop
signs. All motorists are encouraged to please be patient and observe safety procedures while
traveling through this area.
This intersection is located on a state highway (933 North) therefore the City of South
Bend is assisting the State Highway Department with repairs and safe traffic controls to help in
expediting the process. Repair and reinstallation is expected to be complete by the end of the
week. Please see schedule below.
Utility Locates (other utility lines in the area need to be identified) – completed by
Wednesday, October 8
Concrete base for mast arm upright – prep & pour Wed. Oct. 8 & Thurs. Oct. 9
Electrical work begins (after concrete base cures) – Friday, October 10
Work completed – Fri. Oct. 10 or Sat. Oct. 11 (depending on any unexpected
problems)
The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather. INDOT and the City of
South Bend remind motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a
highway construction zone. Updates will be provided to communicate any changes in the
schedule as the work continues.
