CITY CLERK, SOUTH B -N", iND, AN ORDINANCE DEFINING FALSE FIRE ALARMS; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR MAKING SAID FALSE FIRE ALARMS; PROVIDING A CASH REWARD TO ANYONE FURNISHING INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF A PERSON OR PERSONS MAKING SAID FALSE FIRE ALARMS; REPEALING ANY ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, false fire alarms tend to create public disturbances, endanger life and property, and create considerable and undue expense; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, THAT: Section 1. It shall be unlawful for anyone to willfully turn in, or report a false fire alarm or false fire call. Section 2. For the purpose of this ordinance, a false fire alarm or false fire call is defined as a summons or request, made in person, by telephone, or by any other means, to the proper authorities of the Municipal City of South Bend, for the dispatching of firemen and fire fighting equipment to the scene of a fire which, in fact, does not exist, or as the reporting of a fire which, in fact, does not exist. Section 3. Any person convicted of willfully turning in or reporting a false fire alarm or false fire call shall be fined not less than Twenty Five ($25.00) Dollars nor more than Three Hundred ($300.00) Dollars or by imprisonment for not less than ten (10) days nor more than six (6) months or by both said fine and imprisonment; provided however, that such fine shall not be less than the actual cost sustained by the City of South Bend in responding to such false fire alarm or false fire call. Section 4. The City does hereby offer a reward of Fifty ($50.00) Dollars to be paid to any person furnishing information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone giving a false fire alarm or false fire call as defined by this ordinance. Section 5. Any ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 6.
