ORDINANCE NO. 5086 -69
AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE
CITY WATER WORKS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND
LAYNE- NORTHERN COMPANY, INCORPORATED, MISHAWAKA,
INDIANA, FOR THE PURCHASE OF A DEEP WELL PUMP
AND MOTOR, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $6,180.00.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA:
SECTION I: That the contract entered into between the City Water
Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and Layne- Northern Company,
Incorporated, Mishawaka, Indiana, on the 5th day of May, 1969,
pursuant to advertising and receipt of bids, for the purchase of a
vertical turbine water pump and motor in the sum of $6,180.00, is
hereby approved and confirmed.
SECTION II: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption and approval by the Mayor.

to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE
CITY WATER WORKS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND
LAYNE— NORTHERN COMPANY, INC., MISHAWAKA, INDIANA
FOR THE PURCHASE OF A DEEP WELL PUMP AND MOTOR, IN THE
TOTAL AMOUNT OF $6,180.00.
Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the Ordinance go to
the Council as favorable.

RE: Deep Well Pump and Motor
FROM: John L. Hunter, Superintendent of Utilities
Notice to Bidders was properly advertised in two newspapers on
April 18 and 25, 1969. A copy of this notice and the specifications
mentioned are enclosed. The Board of Water Commissioners received
and opened the only bid on May 5, 1969. Since Layne- Northern Company,
Incorporated, was the only bidder, the contract was awarded to them
and entered into on the same date.
The pump and motor are to replace the one at South Pumping
Station, Well No. 4. The old pump was installed in 1942. Upon fail-
ure of this pump, it was found that the cost of repair would equal or
surpass the cost of a new pump. The motor is also 27 years old and
has outlived its usefulness. We, therefore, decided to purchase the
new pump and motor.
