Downtown Football Fridays Block Party Kick-Off
Friday, September 5
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
– Mark your calendars for Friday, September 5 at 6:00 p.m.! It’s the first of
six Football Fridays Block Party events to be held in the heart of downtown South Bend. Each Friday,
before a Notre Dame home football game, the 100 block of South Michigan Street will be closed to
traffic, tents will be pitched, and people will gather to celebrate and kick-off each home game weekend.
The 2008 Football Fridays Block Party, located near the College Football Hall of Fame, will feature
games and activities hosted by and benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), pre-Block
Party flag football league games on the Hall of Fame’s Gridiron, the U.S. Army football toss, festive
tailgate food and beverages by Upper Deck Catering along with game day merchandise from the College
Football Hall of Fame on sale. Live musical performances by popular regional bands take place from 7 to
10:00 p.m. at every Block Party.

The 2008 Football Fridays Block Party dates and performance schedule begins September 5 with
Pherson and the Struts
playing high energy Rock n’ Roll with a dash of Motown sound. September 12

features a Rock/Pop cover band playing cutting edge songs from nearly every genre. New to the
Creole Stomp
2008 Block Party series is playing on September 26. A true French Creole band with a
little Blues, Rock, Country, Swing, Celtic and Latin mixed in for a truly unique sound. October 3 features
Uncut Version
another first timer, , melding Rock, Dance, Pop and Alternative music to all-time favorites

and originals. playing October 31, is new to the’08 line-up and fuses medleys of
modern and classic hits from artists like Tom Petty, The Doobie Brothers, Stone Temple Pilots, Led

Zeppelin, and many more. Last but not least on November 21 isknown for playing a
diverse array of music including Classic Rock, Top 40, Oldies, Country, R&B and more.

Admission is just $5 per person. Children under the age of 12 are free. 2 For 1 admission from 6-7:00
p.m. Plan on bringing a friend or even a group to compete September 5 in MDA’s Corn
Hole Tournament. Teams of two may participate by paying a small tournament fee with all proceeds
benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team! For more
