AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $70,000
FROM THE SEWAGE DISPOSAL FUND FOR
THE CONSTRUCTION OF SEWERS.
WHEREAS, the balance in the Sewage Disposal Fund is the
residual of a General Obligation Bond Issue, plus accumulated
interest from investments, and
WHEREAS, the purpose for which these bonds were issued
was for the construction of sewers,and
WHEREAS, funds are needed for the construction of
additional miscellaneous sewers, and
WHEREAS, there is an unappropriated and unobligated
balance in the Sewage Disposal Fund in excess of $70,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
Section 1. There is hereby appropriated from the
Sewage Disposal Fund the sum of $70,000 for the construction of
miscellaneous sewers.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council, its
approval by the Mayor and the fulfillment of all statutory re-
quirements.

Memo to: South Bend Common Council
Subject: Ordinance Appropriating $70,000 from Sewage Disposal
Fund
The Sewage Disposal Fund is the residual of a General Obligation
Bond issue created for the purpose of constructing the interceptor
sewer system and other miscellaneous sewers.
We have several small sewer projects where .the party needing
sewer is willing to pay his share of the cost but cannot pay the
total cost of the sewer extension. We are suggesting that the
City pay the difference, and that others hooking to this sewer
in the future reimburse the City at our standard rate of seven
cents (7G) per square foot.
There is no reimbursement on the Washington Street sewer because
it was planned in 1957 to take care of factories along the river
which were bypassed by the interceptor sewer. Easements were
obtained at that time; however, due to the uncertainty of the
boundaries of downtown renewal the projects were never completed.
The projects are as follows:
PROJECT I -- Construct a sanitary sewer with lift
station in Rosemary Lane from Hartman Drive
