ORDINANCE NO. 5257 -70
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4537 -62,
SEC. 3, BEING SEC. 11 -19 OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE, RELATING TO ELECTRIC WIRING STANDARDS,
AS AMENDED.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of
South Bend, Indiana:
SECTION I. That Section 7 of Ordinance No. 3913, as
amended by Section 3 of Ordinance No. 4537-62, being Section 11 -19
of the South Bend Municipal Code, be deleted in its entirety and
the following be inserted and adopted in place thereof:
"Sec. 11 -19 Electric Wiring Standards
"(a) The 1968 Edition of the "National Electrical
Code ", as promulgated by the National Fire
Protection Association, three copies of which
shall be kept on file in the office of the
Building Commissioner and made available for
public examination at all times during regular
business hours, is hereby adopted as the offi-
cial Electrical Code of the City of South Bend,
except for such changes, additions, or dele-
tions as are specified in this chapter."
"(b) Rigid conduit, electrical metallic tubing or
other approved raceways shall be used for all
wiring installed within Fire Districts one and
two of the city and in all public buildings,
multi- family buildings of four stories or more,
commercial garages, factories, governmental
buildings, schools, hotels, motels, motion
picture houses, theatres, hospitals, asylums,
warehouses, churches, office buildings and
store buildings within the city. Type AC
(BX) cable may be used only by special per-
mission obtained from the Building Commissioner.
Electrical metallic tubing or flexible metal
conduit shall not be used where exposed to
weather, wet locations or refrigerated areas."
SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council, approval
by the Mayor, and publication as required by law.
