Agenda: Eric Horvath — Update Sample / Olive Overpass
At the request of 6th district Councilman and Public Works and Property Vacation Chair Oliver Davis, the
Director of Public Works Eric Horvath gave an update on the status of the Olive /Sample Overpass.
Eric distributed two handouts to Council (attached). One outlined projected costs, the other projected
timetable. He explained the advantage of a joint project working with St Joseph County on this project
estimated to cost $ 14 million dollars. The County, legally responsible for bridges would pay for the
overpass itself. The approaches would be paid by the City at a total cost of $ 4.6 million dollars split
evenly between the County and City. The balance nearly $ 10 million dollars, would be federal dollars.
Design begun in early 2013 would lead to construction completion by the end of the 1't quarter in 2015.
After answering clarifying questions from Councilmembers Eric promised to address the repair and
upgrade of Olive St. from the south approach of the overpass going south to Indiana 23.
