AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN
THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AND FMC CORPORATION,
ENVIRONMENTAL EQUIPMENT DIVISION, CHICAGO,
ILLINOIS FOR THE PURCHASE OF A MODEL 36A
COMMINUTOR IN THE AMOUNT OF $13,964.00.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
SECTION I: That the contract entered into between the Wastewater Treat-
ment Plant of the City of South Bend, Indiana and F14C Corporation,
Environmental Equipment Division, Chicago, Illinois, for the purchase of
a Model 36A Comminutor in the amount of $13,964.00, is hereby approved
and confirmed.
SECTION II: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its adoption and approval by the Mayor.

RE: Purchase of Comminutor
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Board of Commissioners published a
Notice to Bidders requesting bids for a Model 36A Comminutor or
equivalent to replace one of three comminutors presentlyin operation
at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Only one bid was received and that was from the FMC Corporation,
Environmental Equipment Division, Chicago, Illinois. Their bid was
for a Model 36A Comminutor in the amount of $13,964. Inspection of
the present unit was made and it was indicated that it is beyond
repair. A quotation of approximately $14,000 was submitted for
replacement parts and labor.
A comminutor is one of three large grinding machines, similar to
garbage disposals, reducing the large debris or waste to a small size
prior to entry into treatment. This is a vital step in the waste
treatment operation.
