Subject: Engineering Contract - Oliver Dam
Inspection and Repair
Gentlemen:
Reply To: Department
of public Works
April 3, 1974
The Department of Public Works is requesting an appropriation
in the amount of $37,500 from the General Revenue Sharing Fund
as payment for services to be rendered by Lawson Associates, a
local engineering firm. The Board of Public Works has approved
a contract with this firm subject to Council approval of the
necessary funds.
The work to be performed by Lawson Associates includes prep-
aration of criteria to place the Tainter Gates in operating
condition; plans for desilting as required behind the Dam;
inspection of the Dam during a dewatered phase, and preparation
of plans for the repair of the Dam.
This work is to be coordinated with the design of the White
Water in the West Race.
It should be noted that the Oliver Dam is a responsibility of
the City of South Bend, and that while periodic inspections
of the Dam have been made, no proposal for the repair of
deteriorating portions of the Dam have been prepared, and no
such repairs have been completed.
