The Board of Public Safety met in Special Meeting at 9:03 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in
the 13`h Floor Board Conference Room, County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., South
Bend, Indiana, with Board President Laura Vasquez and Board Members Eddie Miller, John Collins,
and Luther Taylor present. Also present was Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Police Chief Ronald Teachman,
and Attorney Cory Hamel. Melinda Lercel, Engineering, was acting Clerk in place of Linda Martin,
Clerk of the Board.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
ACCEPT AND APPROVE HIRING OF PROBATIONARY POLICE OFFICERS
Upon a motion by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mr. Collins and carried, the recommendation of Police
Chief Ronald Teachman that Bruno Martinsky, Brandon Lent, and Kyle Brownfield be accepted for
employment as probationary police officers with the South Bend Police Department was accepted
and approved.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg was present and told the Probationary Police Officers that it is customary for
them to greet the Board of Public Safety Members and then he would say a few words. He wanted to
extend his congratulations on behalf of the entire community and himself. Mayor Buttigieg stated
that when the public sees you in uniform, they see the uniform; the way you carry yourself and do
your duty reflects on the City. Mayor Buttigieg thanked the families for their support of the officers
and noted that they too will be serving the citizens of South Bend as families offering support to the
officers. John V oorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office for the swearing -
in of the above officers. Police Chief Ronald Teachman welcomed the officers to the Police
Department. The Board of Safety joined Chief Teachman in congratulating the newly sworn in
officers and wishing them well in their endeavors with the South Bend Police Department. Mayor
Buttigieg invited the newly sworn -in officers and their families to join him in his office for
refreshments.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Board, Ms. Vasquez declared the meeting
adjourned at 9:28 a.m.

The meeting was held in the Board Conference Room, 13`h Floor, County City Building, South Bend,

Indiana, for the purposes specified in I.C. 5- 14- 1.5- 6.1(b)(2)(A)6(A). Board President Laura Vasquez
and Board Members Eddie Miller, John Collins, and Luther Taylor were present. Also present were
Police Chief Ronald Teachman and Attorney Cory Hamel. Board members did not discuss any
subject matter other than the subject matter as specified in the Public Notice. The meeting adjourned
at 11:35 a.m.
