AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $11,805.00 FROM THE
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT COMMONLY REFERRED TO
AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC
WORKS PROGRAMS, TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS'DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
WORKS.
WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Department of Public
Works to administer certain Public Works programs and to ensure the Department's
ability to properly perform its functions during the year of 1974.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend as follows:
SECTION I. That the sum of $11,805.00 is hereby appropriated
for the year of 1974 from the Federal Assistance Grant Fund, commonly known
as the General Revenue Sharing Fund. This appropriation is to be administered
by the Department of Public Works and will be distributed as set forth below:

SECTION II. This Ordinance shall be in"full force and effect
from and after its passage by the Common Council, approval by the Mayor, and
the fulfillment of all statutory requirements for emergency funding.

There will be presented for first reading an ordinance appropriating a total of
$11,805.00 from the Revenue Sharing general fund. This money would be used to
defer the costs of purchase for two pieces of equipment on which bids were open-
ed on the 7th of January, 1974 by the Board of Public Works. The low bids are
as follows:
1 each Ford tractor, Model 51024C diesel tractor $ 7,100.00
1 each Tiger Taylor side mounted rotary mower with 5' cut 4,705.00
Total $11,805.00
As you are aware, an environmental clean -up program was run last summer through
revenue sharing funds which you so kindly appropriated. We feel the program was
a success and if any shortcoming showed up it was the lack of availability of equip-
ment to be used in the program. This two part piece of equipment will enable us to
clean more lots, and also to include those with denser growth. We would feel that
this piece of equipment can also be used by the Bureau of Streets in cleaning up
some of the roadsides on our more rural appearing streets.
If you have any further questions Mr. Rollin Farrand, Director of Public Works,will
be glad to answer them.
