Peter Nemeth and Roger Parent Common Council, City of South Bend Council Chambers 4th Floor, County -City Bldg. South Bend, Indiana 46601 Dear Messrs. Nemeth and Parent: Reply To: December 11, 1974 At the present time we are requesting $10.,0.00 of revenue sharing money for the continuation of the Overtime Foot Patrol for at least the first six weeks of the new year in order to give Chief Walsh ttie opportunity to align his resources and to make a disposition of h-is personnel in order to continue our effective crime control programs, The Overtime Foot Patrol as you know has been employed in htigh crime areas for the past eighteen months and there is definite evidence that tt has been most effective in a variety of ways. In addition to regular patrol efforts, these police personnel have been employed very efficiently in stake -outs and surveillance. We feel that the Overtime Foot Patrol has contributed mightily to the general decrease in the crime rate and more specifically to the 22% decrease this year in Crimes Against People. Being committed as strongly as you are to the safety of our citizens, I would hope that this program could be continued for this period of time and that further discussion can be held at some time in the future for on -going funding. Both Chief Walsh and I will be happy to meet with you at your convenience to discuss this matter further. Sincerely, / G,. Patrtck 13411d94e-r
