The Olive Street sewer was constructed about 40 years ago. Because of the
mortar joint construction, the groundwater in.the area and infiltration/
exfiltration over a period of many years, the sewer is in very poor condi-
tion. This has manifested itself in street cave -ins which have been
expensive to repair. In addition, much inconvenience has resulted from
these sewer and street repairs on virtually an annual basis.
The problem was studied by a consulting engineering firm and as a result
of their study, a set of plans and specifications for a replacement sewer
system is in hand. Their study and design has been reviewed by at least
one member of the Council.
We are most desirous of placing this work under contract this spring and
are requesting the appropriation for this work. We anticipate that firm
bids will be on hand prior to the public hearing on this appropriation.
At that time, we will adjust the appropriated amount accordingly.
Your favorable action on this appropriation will be appreciated.
Veryy ptruly yours,
