There items were listed for consideration on Gavin Ferlic's Community Investment Committee agenda.
The first was bill 13 -69, a request to approve and adopt the Near Northwest Neighborhood (NNN)
quality of life plan. Presenting was Karen Ainsley, President of NNN. Karen emphasized the
thoroughness, the inclusiveness and practicality of the NNN plan. As stated in the handout (attached)
she provided the Council the plan designed with much neighborhood involvement, represented a
comprehensive, collective vision of what the neighborhood strives to be.
Pam Meyer, longtime head of the Community Development Department spoke in support of the plan.
Rose Skobel, a consultant who guided the NNN in formulating the plan, spoke to the "action plan" listed
in the handout as well as the cooperative relationship with the City who helped form the plan.
Former Mayor Steve Luecke spoke in favor calling the plan both achievable and responsible.
Brief complimentary Council comment followed before Dr. Fred Ferlic motioned and Valerie Schey
seconded a favorable recommendation to Council. All supported.
Bill 13 -70- and 13 -71, both requests for residential abatements filed by Steve Cooreman were heard
jointly in the interest of time and avoiding redundancy. In his presentation Steve Cooreman, the
developer, used a full -color handout (attached) to illustrate the need for his two requests.
The first asked for an extension to a previously granted abatement which would help 3 or 4 families now
building homes; but unable to complete them before the abatement expiration date. The second
request was for an abatement to help market the 36 unsold lots in the development. When sold, Steve
said the lots would generate nearly a half million dollars in new taxes.
Valerie Schey asked if the new taxes would go to the Airport TIF and was assured they would not. So
she seconded a motion by Dr. Ferlic to send both bills to full Council favorably. All supported.
