AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $ 38 700.00
FROM THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREETTUNp 00
FROM THE CUMULATIVE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUNDS TO
PROJECT R &S 72, CONSTRUCTION OF DONMOYER AVENUE FROM
MAIN STREET TO MICHIGAN STREET
WHEREAS, there was enacted during the 1969 Session of the
Indiana General Assembly an Act, Chapter 392 of the Acts of 1969,
making available to cities, towns and counties for engineering,
construction or reconstruction of roads, streets and bridges under
local jurisdiction, certain additional funds to be derived from
the 7th and 8th cents of Indiana motor fuel tax and fuel tax and
from increases in fees levied under the Motor Vehicle Act; and
WHEREAS, no appropriation of such funds was included in the
regular 1973 budget for the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists requiring the appropriation and
expenditure of certain of said funds already received or to be received
before the end of the year 1975; and
funds. WHEREAS, funds have been appropriated for the City's matching
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana:
SECTION I. The following sums of money are hereby appropria-
ted and ordered set apart out of the Local Roads and Street Fund, and
the Cumulative Capital Improvement Fund for engineering costs on the
following project.

An appropriation ordinance is being submitted for funds to provide for
the extension of Donmoyer Street from its present terminus at Mich-
igan Street westward to Main Street. Donmoyer Street is the first
street north of Ireland Road that provides access through the area
east of Michigan to Miami and the residential area beyond. Traffic
restrictions have been placed on Donmoyer to enable its use as a
collector street.
Because of the one way pair on Michigan -Main Streets, southbound
traffic must make a circuitous movement to get to Donmoyer. A con-
siderable volume of traffic now uses the alley that lies in the
path of the proposed construction. This alley is not designed to
handle this volume of traffic movement and exits onto Michigan at
a hazardous intersection.
This connection will also provide some relief to businesses fronting
on Michigan Street who should benefit from easier access from South-
bound traffic.
