Director, Public Works Members of the Common Council 441 County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Gentlemen: Reply To: Department of Public Works July 9, 1975 An ordinance is being submitted for an appropriation to fund improve- ments at the intersection of Elwood and Portage Avenues. These in- tersections provide for increased radii and some widening on Elwood. This intersection is narrow with restricted radii limiting the abil- ity of this intersection to move larger vehicles. This becomes particularly critical for the movement of emergency vehicles such as fire safety equipment. The proposed improvements will permit safety equipment to negotiate this intersection without making difficult and complicated maneuvers. Your favorable consideration of this program is recommended. Very truly yours, » ja;ae Rollin E. Farrand, P. E. Director REF:dsr
