ORDINANCE NO. 5854 -75 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF FIREFIGHTERS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1976. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: SECTION 1. The annual pay of the officers and members of the irf— e-Trce of the City of South Bend for the year 1976, by rank and classification, shall be as follows: Chief ...................... $17,000 f Assistant Chie............ 15,100 Battalion Chief ............ 13,145 Captain .................. 12,206 Electrician ................ 12,206 Lieutenant ................. 11,854 Engineer ....... 11,149 Firefighter First Class .... 9,600 Firefighter .... 9,000 Firefighter in Training .... 8,520 SECTION 2. In addition to the foregoing annual pay, the officers and members of the fire force shall receive compensa- tion for extra duty and special performance as follows: For recall or overtime pay, $5.00 per hour; For regularly assigned drivers of fire trucks and other heavy equipment, and the tillermen, $225.00 per year; year; For regularly assigned scuba divers, $225.00 per For paramedics, an additional $600.00 per year. For all personnel required to work on legal holidays, $32.00 per holiday worked; this shall apply to the following holidays and no others: New Year's Day Fourth of July Lincoln's Birthday Labor Day Washington's Birthday Columbus Day Good Friday Veteran's Day Easter Sunday Thanksgiving Memorial Day Christmas SECTION 3. The Common Council recommends that the advancement of rank from Firefighter in Training to Engineer be after three years upon satisfactory performance of duty and recommendation of the Board of Safety. SECTION 4. The Common Council recommends that the contribution to dependent hospitalization be increased by $84.00 per year and that the Firefighter's clothing allowance be advanced from $250.00 to $275.00 per year. SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall be in force and effect for the calendar year commencing January 1, 1976, and ending December 31, 1976. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the Ordinance should be recommended favorably to the Common Council, as amended: Amend to increase salaries of Battalion Chief, Captain, Electrician, Lieutenant and Engineer by $16.00. Amend to increase salary of Firefighter First Class to $9,600.00. In Section 2, include tillermen with assigned drivers of fire trucks and other heavy equipment. Add a new Section 4: The Common Council recommends that the contribution to dependent hospitalization be increased by $84.00 per year and that the Firefighter's clothing allowance be advanced from $250.00 to $275.00 per year.
