AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $15,675.00 FROM THE
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, COMMONLY REFERRED TO
AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC
WORKS PROGRAMS, TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
WORKS.
WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Department of Public
Works to administer certain public works programs and to insure the
Department's ability to properly perform its functions during the year
1975.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City
of South Bend as follows:
Section I. The sum of $15,675.00 is hereby appropriated for
the year 1975 from the Federal Assistance Grant Fund, commonly known
as the General Revenue Sharing Trust Fund. This appropriation is to
be administered by the Department of Public Works through its Bureau
of Solid Waste and will be distributed as set forth below:

Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage by the Common Council, approval by the Mayor,
and the fulfillment of all statutory requirements for emergency
appropriation.

The attached appropriation ordinance is being submitted for your consid-
eration to provide funds for the Summer Weed and Trash Control Program.
This program was particularly successful in 1974 with 396 locations being
cleaned, many of them two and three times.
This appropriation will provide the necessary equipment to operate this
program. You will note that despite the effects of inflation, costs are
down this year because we have gained more experience in equipment require-
ments and have equipment from previous years.
