GAMMON Approved and signed by me g'Yh a S I996 � Clerk ORDINANCE NO. ,5'q -� to AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $ 159, 000.00 FROM THE LOCAL ROADS AND STREET FUND TO PROJECT R & S 88 SIGNAL MODERNIZATION AT PORTAGE, HAMILTON, WILBER AND WOODLAWN STREETS; WITHIN SAID FUND. WHEREAS, there was enacted during the 1969 session of the Indiana General Assembly an Act, Chapter 392 of the Acts of 1969, making available to cities, towns and counties for engineering, construction or reconstruction of roads, streets and bridges under local jurisdiction, certain additional funds to be derived from the 7th and 8th cents of Indiana Motor Fuel Tax and Fuel -Use Tax, and from increases in fees levied under the Motor Vehicle Act; and WHEREAS, no appropriation of such funds was included in the regular 1976 budget for the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana; and WHEREAS, the City's matching share is being supplied through the use of Federal Aid Urban Funds NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: SECTION I. The following sum is hereby appropriated from the Local Road & Street Fund to Project R & S 88, within said fund. Project NO. NEMETH, Mayor LLI z a. a COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 /HDIAW" April 28, 1976 Members of the Common Council 441 County /City Building South Bend, IN 46601 Subject: Project M- 6000(16) Signal Modernization Dear Council Members: 219/284 -9251 The City of South Bend has prepared and submitted to the State plans for the modernization of fourteen (14) intersections and for the installation of new signals at two (2) intersections. These intersections are as follows: Jefferson Boulevard and Hill Jefferson Boulevard and St. Louis Boulevard Jefferson Boulevard and Twyckenham Drive Jefferson Boulevard and Greenlawn Avenue Jefferson Boulevard and Ironwood Drive Jefferson Boulevard and 26th Street Mishawaka Avenue, Beyer Avenue and Longfellow Avenue Mishawaka Avenue and Twyckenham Drive Mishawaka Avenue and Greenlawn Avenue Mishawaka Avenue and Ironwood Drive Mishawaka Avenue and 26th Street Mishawaka Avenue and 30th Street LaSalle Avenue and Niles Avenue LaSalle Avenue and Hill Sample Street and Sheridan Portage Avenue and Wilber The State has set these projects for a June 1976 letting. A copy of the agreement between the City and the State has been forwarded to the Board of Public Works by the State, covering City participation in this project. The State has established a construction estimate of $530,000 for this work. The appropriation covered by the ordinance under consideration is to provide the City's share of this project. Members of the Common Council Page Two April 28, 1976 This project will utilize Federal -Aid Urban Funds. These funds will cover 70 per cent of the total project cost. It is the judgement of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, in the Department of Public Works, that each of these projects will significantly contribute to the safety of the motoring public within the limits of the City of South Bend. In addition, the intersection at Portage, Hamilton and Wilber is in need of new signals to provide for the safe movement of pedestrian traffic and particular school pedestrian traffic.
