AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 45855 -75
FIXING MAXIMUM SALARIES AND WAGES OF APPOINTED
OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE YEAR 1976.
WHEREAS, certain amendments to this ordinance would be in the
best interest of the City of South Bend by correcting some inadequacies of
the present ordinance.
AND, WHEREAS, certain classifications are not listed in the ordin-
ance.
AND, WHEREAS, the corrections requested can be funded from
budgeted funds within the certain budget item.
AND WHEREAS, this correction would make it possible for certain
crossing guards and cadets within the Bureau of Police budget to obtain
relief from a cut in pay.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana;
SECTION I That from and after the 1st day of May, 1976 the
classification for the following appointed officers and employees of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, for the year 1976, shall be added to the 1976
salary ordinance.

Crossing Guard 2,950.00 3,100.00
Police Cadet II 3,661.00 3,800.00
SECTION II This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the
Mayor.

This Ordinance is a request to correct an inequity which was
caused by a mistake in the process of developing the 1976 Salary
Ordinance. The position of Crossing Guard III was erroneously left
out of the Salary Ordinance but does show in the budget. The other
Crossing Guards and the Police Cadets had the salary increase
adopted by the Common Council built on the wrong base, and con-
sequently some of them got a very small raise and some of them none
at all. The only means of correcting this inequity is to add the positions
in the proposed amendment to the present Salary Ordinance.
