SUBJECT: Bullet Resistant Vests for Police Officers
IND I AIA N
2191284-9311
The recent wounding of Cpl. Maurice woods has precipitated a desire to purchase
Bullet Resistant Vests. Attached are detailed specifications for vests for the Bureau
of Police use.
The anticipated cost per vest may be-as high as $135.00. At that cost as a
maximum expenditure for 175 units for uniform personnel and another 20 to 25 spares
for detectives and newly appointed personnel before the next budget is approved we
would need a transfer of funds.
We have a balance in the 540 account of about $6,000.00 of which $5,000.00 can
b-- used for this purpose. There will be a surplus in our 110 account avail'bla for
transfer in the amount of the balance expected as high as $22,000.00 to make up
$27,000.00.
if an ordinance can be prepared for such a transfer we might be able to adjust
the transfer zequest.downward as newer, more detailed information becomes available.
