AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $5,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMS, TO BE ADMINISTERED TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH THE BUREAU OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL. WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Bureau of Environ- mental Control, to ensure the department's ability to properly per- form its functions during the year 1976, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND AS FOLLOWS: SECTION S. That the sum of $5,000.00 is hereby appropriated for the year of 1976 from the Federal Assistance Grant Fund, commonly known as the General Revenue Sharing Fund. This appropriation is to be admini- stered through the Bureau of Environmental Control and will be distributed as set forth below: PROGRAM FA 109 "VARMINT CONTROL" Account Description Amount Contractual 260.0 Other Contractual Service $5,000.00 Total FA 109 $5,000.00 SECTION TI. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council, approval by the Mayor, and the fulfillment of all statutory requirements for emergency appropriations. UJ a /NDIA0 There will be presented for your consideration, on Sept- ember 12, 1976, the first reading of an ordinance appro- priating $5,000.00 from Revenue Sharing. 219/284 -9742 As you are all aware, the city is faced with an extreme health problem caused by an excessive population of rats in the LaSalle Park area and in certain other areas of the city. The city, in cooperation with the St. Joseph County Health Department, is undertaking a major clean -up and extermin- ation project in this area to try to solve this problem before it gets out of hand. Your favorable consideration of this ordinance will be greatly appreciated.
