GAMMON Clerk ORDINANCE NO. 5991 -76 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF POLICEMEN FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1977 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: SECTION 1. The annual pay of the officers and members of the Police Department of the City of South Bend for the year 1977, by rank, classification and service years, shall be according to the 1977 Police Salary Schedule as follows: Police Chief . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$19,000 Division Chiefs . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17,500 Captains . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 16,000 Lieutenants . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14,500 Sergeants . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 13,000 Corporal . . . . . . . . The first service year for a police officer commences upon his being sworn in as a police officer. The police officer shall obtain his second service year on the next succeeding first day of January and shall advance one service year on each successive first day of January until he attains the maximum salary for the particular rank he may hold. SECTION 2. Any individual officer who through this ordinance would receive less base salary during the year 1977 than he did during the year 1976 for the same rank may be compensated at a level commensurate with the 1976 level. SECTION 3. In addition to the foregoing annual pay, the officers and members of the Police Department shall receive compensation for extra duty and special performance as follows: (a) For time spent in court appearances and overtime work as determined by the Chief of Police, $5.00 per hour. A police officer requested to work overtime by the Police Chief or his designee is automatically paid the $5.00 per hour. SECTION 4. The Common Council recommends that the sworn members' of the Police Department clothing allowance be $300.00 per year. SECTION 5. Upon the effective date of this ordinance, the educational incentive will no longer be in effect. SECTION 6. The Common Council recommends that the advancement of rank from Patrolman First Class to Corporal be after three (3) complete years upon satisfactory performance of duty and promotion by the Board of Safety. SECTION 7. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect for the calendar year commencing January 1, 1977, and ending December 31, 1977. Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion This Ordinance be recommended to Council favorably, as amended: Section I Adding service years to patrolman first class, patrolman, and officer in training. Section I Change service years for a corporal from 1 -5 to 3 -5. Section I Add the following paragraph: An officer in training shall remain in that status until satisfactory completion of the mandatory law enforcement training program. Section VI Add the word complete after (3) and change the sentence to read: The Common Council recommends that the advancement of rank from Patrolman First Class to Corporal be after three (3) complete years upon satisfactory performance of duty and promotion by the Board of Safety.
