Honorable Council Members:

Recently, on two different occassions, the South Bend Fire Department
asked the Board of Public Works for permission to prepare specifications
and advertise for bids. Permission in both instances was granted and
bids were received for cars and a communications console for the Fire
Department's alarm station. Upon my recommendation, the lowest bids
were tentatively accepted by the Board of Public Works pending the
approval of funding legislation.
Therefore, I respectfully request an appropriation of $41,300, of
which $25,300 will be spent for the purchase of new cars and $16,000
for the communications console.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Your approval will
be greatly appreciated.
