OLENICZ South Bend Common Council c/o Mrs. Irene K. Gammon South Bend City Clerk 4th Floor County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Gentlemen: Enclosed is an Ordinance which, if adopted by the South Bend Common Council and approved by the Mayor, would amend the South Bend Municipal Code as follows: 1. The rates would be increased to ten (10) cents for each one -sixth of a mile over the first one -fifth of a mile. Said first one -fifth of a mile would remain at seventy -five (75) cents. 2. Permit a surcharge of fifty (50) cents per trip between the hours of 7:00 o'clock p.m. and 5:00 o'clock a.m. This Ordinance has the support of both taxicab companies in South Bend, Courtesy Cab Association and South Bend Cab Co., Inc. It is with reticence that the taxicab industry requests these rate increases, but the continued rise in the cost of living, specifically the high cost of automobiles, of gasoline, and of maintenance and the great increase in insurance costs, necessitate this request. Will you please have this Ordinance introduced for first reading on January 24, 1977, and for public hear- ing and second reading on February 14, 1977. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Sincerely yours, Kevin JJ.
