AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING ADDITIONAL MONIES
TO VARIOUS FUNDS AS SET FORTH IN SECTION I.
FOR THE PRUPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSE OF
LIABILITY AND PROPERTY INSURANCE FOR THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND DURING THE PERIOD OF
JULY 15 TO JANUARY 15, 1978.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
As presented to you earlier this year in Resolutions 545 -546 (77),
additional funds are now needed to continue and keep In force the
city's Liability, Property and Workmen's Compensation insurance
during the balance of the contract year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The aggregate sum of $329,180.00 is hereby
appropriated for the balance of the contract year from various
funds as set forth below. These appropriations will be admini-
stered by the Department of Administration and Finance.

SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from�and after its passage by the Common Council, approval
by the Mayor and fulfillment of all statutory requirements for
emergency appropriations.

Dear Council Members:

I am presenting an ordinance for first reading on June 13, 1977,
which, if passed, will appropriate funds to pay the City's insurance
for the balance of the calendar year.
As you will recall, on January 24, 1977, you passed Resolution Num-
bers 545 -77 and 546 -77 which approved the resolutions of the Board
of Public Works and Park Boards, accepting the proposal of Aetna
Insurance for the coverage of the City. At that time I informed
the Council that there would be a need for additional funds to pay
premiums and audit costs later in the year.
The funds, as detailed in the ordinance, will pay premiums owed
for the period July 15, 1977 through January 15, 1978, and therefore
allow us to maintain our present coverage as it was bid.
You will note that the premium costs have been spread among several
funds. This was not an arbitrary action, but rather an attempt to
place premium responsibility on the source of the exposure.

the expense of Liability and Property Insurance for the
city of South Bend during the period of July 15 to January
15, 1978.
