AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $6,500.00 FROM THE CUMULATIVE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND, LINE ITEM NO. 260.0, AND $58,500.00 FROM THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREET FUND TO PRO- JECT R & S 92, RIVERSIDE DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS, WITHIN THE LOCAL ROAD AND STREET FUND. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: In that an unsafe condition exists along Riverside Drive from a point 500 feet north to a point 500 feet south of its intersection with Northview Drive, certain improvements have been proposed. Funds are now needed to pay the cost of the construction of these im- provements. These funds are available from the Cumulative Capital Improvement Fund and the Local Road and Street Fund for these purposes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: SECTION I: That the following sums of money are hereby appropriated and ordered set apart out of the Cumulative Capital Improvement Fund and the Local Road and Street Fund for the project in the amounts set forth below: PROJECT NO. NEMETH, Mayor COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 May 4, 1977 Members of the Common Council 441 County /City Building South Bend, IN 46601 RE: R & S 92 - Riverside Drive Improvement Project Dear Councilmen: 219/284 -9251 The attached ordinance, appropriating a total of $65,000, will enable the Department of Public Works to enter into a contract for the reconstruction of Riverside Drive for a distance of approximately 1,000 feet at its inter- section with Northview Drive. The roadway which exists at this location is a good deal sharper than those encountered on the roadway north of this location. As a result, during inclement weather, it is not uncommon that southbound drivers will lose con- trol of their vehicles and leave the roadway, crossing the sidewalk and coming to rest in the lawn area of the abutting property owners. In that this segment of sidewalk is heavily travelled by not only local residents but also school children, this Department has proposed improvements which will result in the reconstruction of this section of roadway, the result of which will be a more gradual and better defined curve.
