NEMETH, Mayor COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 Common Council Building 4660T May 4,1977 RE: Ironwood Drive Improvement Project - R & S 68 Dear Councilmen: 219/284-9251 The attached ordinance, appropriating a total of $695,000 from the various funds listed, will allow this Department to pursue the improvements of Iron- wood Drive, from Edison Road north to State Road 23. There are six (6) small parcels which must be purchased in order to commence with this construction; two (2) are located at Ironwood and State Road 23 intersection, four (4) are located at the intersection of Ironwood with Edison Road. It is estimated that $20,000 of the total appropriation will be utilized for these purposes. The construction activities can be divided into two major segments. Iron- wood Road itself will be widened to a five -lane facility, said facility including a center turn lane similar to that in existence on U.S. 31 North. We believe that these improvements, coupled with the reconstruction and re- signalization of the two affected intersections, will greatly enhance the flow of traffic in this area as well as provide for a safe system for ingress and egress to adjacent businesses for the motoring public. I am certain that you are also aware that the existing area is not served by storm sewers. Storm sewers will be installed the entire length of the pro- ject; this storm water will be carried via alrunk sewer line to Lagoon A, which is located east of the roadway improvement. Your favorable consideration is requested. V my yours, Patrick M. McMahon, P.E.
