GAMMON Approved and signed by me C9 r;b IL. a e? 6 t9-2ye- ORDINANCE NO. &() (o -) (o AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $40,000.00 FROM THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANT FUND, FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC PARKS PROGRAMS, TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PARKS. WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Department of Public Parks to administer certain public parks programs and to insure the department's ability to properly perform its functions during the year 1976. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend as follows: Section I. The sum of $40,000.00 is hereby appropriated for the year 1976 from the Community Development Grant Fund. This approp- riation is to be administered by the Department of Public Parks and will be distributed as set forth below: PROGRAM CD - 76 -402 SOUTHEAST SIDE PARK (Shelter House, Tot Lot & Incidental Construction) Account Description Amount 260.0 Other Contractual Services $40,000.00 Section II. Parent, President South Bend Common Council County -City Building 227 West Jefferson Boulevard South Bend, Indiana Dear Mr. Parent: The Department of Public Parks is requesting the Common Council to approve the enclosed ordinance appropriating $40,000.00 for the con- struction of a shelterhouse, tot lot and incidental construction for the Southeast Park. The 10.5 acre park is located in the 200 and 300 blocks of Paris and Elder Streets in the near south side of South Bend. The park consists of three tennis courts, three basketball courts, volleyball court, picnic area, baseball field and off street parking lots. The tennis courts and basketball courts will be lighted this year. The park has already proven to be a busy place for many of the citizens-of the community and we are pleased that the park facilities have been accepted. Since the park will be heavily used and the Recreation Department will have a supervised program at the park next year, a shelterhouse and play area will be needed. The proposed shelter will contain restrooms, storage area for recreation and maintenance equipment and a large roof overhang that can be used in the case of inclement weather. I feel the shelterhouse is definitely needed for the Southeast Park and urge the Common Council to approve the ordinance. Very truly yours, bTt OF P I PARKS R.
