AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $30,000.00 FROM THE
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANT FUND FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC
WORKS PROGRAMS TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS.
WHEREAS, additional funds are needed by the Department of Public
Works to administer certain public works programs and to insure the De-
partment's ability to properly perform its function during the year 1976.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City
of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. The sum of $30,000.00 is hereby appropriated for the
year 1976 from the Community Development Grant Fund (1976). The appro-
priation is to be administered by the Department of Public Works and will
be distributed as set forth below:

WESTERN AVENUE OFF- STREET PARKING

SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the
Mayor.

The Department of Public Works is filing an ordinance for Program CD -76 -503
to provide controlled parking on certain streets along Western Avenue.
These improvements are part of a long -range program to eliminate parking
along certain sections of Western Avenue.
This program has been developed in cooperation with the Western Avenue
Businessmens Association.
The City of South Bend has also been approached by the Indiana State High-
way Commission, through the LaPorte District Office, and an interest was
expressed in removing parking through at least portions of Western Avenue.
This removal of parking would contribute to increased capacity and safer
operating conditions.
These funds will be used to provide curb and paving materials for improve-
ments on streets that now terminate at the alley one -half block north of
Western Avenue. These streets are: Bendix, Camden, Kentucky and Lake
Streets.
Your favorable consideration of this appropriation is recommended.
