JOHNSON Executive Director (219) 284 -9571 September 19, 1977 In Re: Proposed designation of property located at 701 Portage Avenue, City of South Bend Bill No. 137 -77 Dear Mr. Oxian: We have reviewed the Historic Preservation Commission's proposed designation of the above property as an historic landmark with respect to the relationship of said property to the comprehensive plan for the City of South Bend. It should be noted that the Proposed Land Use and Transportation Plan designates Portage Avenue as an arterial and further proposes that the right -of -way on Portage Avenue be widened. This widening would not, however, involve the taking of the subject structure and the proposed designation is otherwise in accordance with the intent of the Proposed Land Use and Transportation Plan. We would, therefore, return a favorable recommendation to the Historic Preservation Commission. Very truly yours, Richard S..
