STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The task of providing a satisfying and stimulating
living environment has become a greater and greater challenge.
There is a growing recognition that if our cities, suburbs, and

essential that a system of parks, recreational facilities /areas,
open space, and even some measure of wilderness are available
to all segments of the city's population. As part of this task,
the Division of Community Development and the Department of Public
Parks has established a long -term objective of increasing the park,
open space, and recreational opportunities available to inner -city
residents by improving existing parks and recreational facilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:

Dear Mr. Parent:
The Department of Public Parks is requesting the Common Council to
approve the enclosed ordinance, in the amount of $15,000.00, to
light the tennis courts at Walkerfield.
The Walkerfield tennis courts were resurfaced this year and have
become very popular. Lights will provide additional hours for
persons wishing to play tennis at Walkerfield.
Additional lighted tennis courts are needed in South Bend and I
hope the Council will give this ordinance serious consideration.
Very truly yours,
