U_[99-11 AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $15,000.00 FROM THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUND, FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC PARK PROJECTS TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/ DIVISION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PARKS. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT: The task of providing a satisfying and stimulating living environment has become a greater and greater challenge. There is a growing recognition that if our cities, suburbs, and metropolitan areas are to be liveable and pleasant, it is essential that a system of parks, recreational facilities /areas, open space, and even some measure of wilderness are available to all segments of the city's population. As part of this task, the Division of Community Development and the Department of Public Parks has established a long -term objective of increasing the park, open space, and recreational opportunities available to inner -city residents by improving existing parks and recreational facilities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: SECTION I. The sum of $15,000.00 is hereby appropriated for the program year starting July 7, 1977, from the City of South Bend's Community Development Block Grant Fund (Program Year 1977). The appropriation shall be used as approved by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, under Title Twenty - Four (24), of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part Five Hundred and Seventy (570) for the Community Development Program Year 1977. This appropriation shall be administered by the Division of Community Development and the Department of Public Parks as set forth below: PROGRAM CD -77 -504 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PURPOSE AMOUNT Lighting of $15,000.00 Tennis Courts at Walker Field SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. The Walkerfield tennis courts were resurfaced this year and have become very popular. Lights will provide additional hours for persons wishing to play tennis at Walkerfield.
