Dear Council Members:

There will be presented to the Common Council, for first reading
on March 13, 1978, an ordinance appropriating the amount of
$58,431.00 from General Revenue Sharing. This appropriation is
for the purchase of twelve vehicles for the Detective Bureau of
the South Bend Police Department.
Although the Board of Works advertised for bids for forty-two
police vehicles, which included thirty uniform cars, because
the bids were higher than originally anticipated, and budget
constraints, it is now our decision to not award bids on the
uniform cars at this time. It is our anticipation that we
will be able to maintain the thirty uniform vehicles for at
least another six to eight months, at which time we will draw
up specifications and rebid those vehicles.
Please keep in mind that the Board of Works has awarded this
bid to Don Medow subject to the approval of financing by the
Council.
Your favorable consideration of this request will be appreciated.
Should you have any further questions please feel free to contact
me.
Sincerely,
Pet Mullen
