HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-09-57 Council Committee of the Whole Meeting MinutesCOMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING: DECEMBER 9, 1957 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole in the Council Chambers, Monday, December 9, 1957, at 8:13 P.M., with all members present except Cluncilman Muszynski. The meeting was called to order by Councilman George W. Carr, Chairman, who presided. ORDINANCE: AN ORDINANCE CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF SELF SERVICE LAUNDRIES Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard at the Public Hearing on this Ordinance. Speaking against passage of the Ordinance were the following: William`T .04re; Att6rney'.650 Associates Building, representing Gus C. Brown, Kenneth C. Bruner of.the Sunnymede Cleaners; Gus Browne,;2741 York Road; A. Stephen, Bremen, Indiana, who is a salesman for self- service laundry equipment; Speaking in favor of the Ordinance were the following: Captain William Downs of the South Bend Fire Department; John Brinckley; Verner Lane, City Building Commissioner; Ivan Ingersbi. Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE: AN ORDINANCE REZONING A TRACT OF LAND ONE HUNDRED (100) FEET IN DEPTH, AND TWO HUNDRED FIFTY -SIX (256) FEET IN LENGTH, LOCATED AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF BULLA STREET AND ANDERSON AVENUE, FROM "A" RESIDENCE, TO "B" RESIDENCE DISTRICT. Proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard at the Public Hearing on this Ordinance. Speaking against the Ordinance were the following: Otto Seifert, 1401 King Street; A. Fry, 1514 W. Bulla Street; Grover C. McLaughlin, 1610 Medora Street; Steve Jeriak, 1333 West King Street. James Borden, petitioner, spoke in favor of passage of the Ordinance. Councilman Christman made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. 1285 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING: DECEMBER 9, 1957 ORDINANCE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 COMMONLY KNOWN AS "THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA" (Dwelling) Councilman Korpal made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the Ordinance Committee for further study. Council- man Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 COMMONLY KNOWN AS "THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA" (Tourist.Homes) Councilman Hahn made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the Ordinance Committee. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 COMMONLY KNOWN AS "THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA" (Lodging House) Councilman Korpal made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the Ordinance Committee. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE ,AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 COMMONLY KNOWN AS "THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA" (Hotel) Councilman Tellson made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the Ordinance Committee for further study. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6 OF SUB - PARAGRAPH (b) OF CHAPTER 26 OF GENERAL ORDINANCE NO. 3709 (Taxi -cab Insurance) Councilman Korpal made a motion that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable.. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE INCREASE OF SEWAGE CHARGE TO ALL USERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF REPAIW AND /OR REPLACEMENT OF WATER SERVICE LINES AND SHUT -OFF BOXES WITHIN AND /OR UNDER PUBLIC PROPERTY. Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Ordinance be referred to the..Coinmittee':of the Whole for further study. Councilman Christman seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Committee of the Whole meeting adjourned at 9:24 P.M.
