HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-29-57 Council Special Meeting MinutesSPECIAL MEETING JULY 29, 1957 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in Special Session in the Council Chambers on Monday, July29, 1957, at 8:05 P.M., C.D.S.T., with all members present except Councilmen.Carr and Erler. CALL FOR A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA WE, the undersigned members of the Common Council, hereby call a Special Meeting of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, to convene at the Council Chambers at the City Hall at 8:00 P.M., on the 29th day of July, 1957, for the purpose of considering the following: AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING MONIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES OF ALL BUDGET - OPERATED DEPARTMENTS OF THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1958, AND ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1958, INCLUDING DEPARTMENTS, FUNDS AND COMMISSIONS FOR WHICH MONEY IS APPROPRIATED, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, FROM FUNDS OTHER THAN THE GENERAL FUNDS, OF SAID CITY, TO -WIT: STREET, TRAFFIC AND PARK DEPARTMENTS FIREMEN'S PENSION AND'PQLICEMEN'S.PENSION. `FUNDS ,AND`THE CITY PLAN 'AND URBAN REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSIONS; PROVIDING THAT SUCH APPROPRIATIONS SHALL INCLUDE ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS AND OBLIGATIONS; FIXING THE SALARIES OF ALL CITY OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL TAKE EFFECT. ALSO AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TAX LEVY FOR THE YEAR 1958 FOR THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. The Chief of Police or any member of the Police Force is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this notice on each and every member of the Common Council and make due return of such service of said Special Meeting. Glass The within call came to hand this 24th day of July, 1957, which I served by reading the same to each Councilman, upon the designated date, or by leaving a certified copy thereof at the last and usual place of residence of such members as I was unable to find, as follows: /s/ J. Glass /s/ Norman E. Collmer Member of the South Bend Police Department Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the Call for a Special Meeting be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilmaa Muszynski made a motion that t Ordinance be advertised on August 2nd and August 9th, for public Hearing in the Committee of the Whole on August 26th, 1957. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TAX LEVY FOR THE YEAR 1958 FOR THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Tellson made a motion that the Ordinance be advertised on August 2nd and August 9th, for public hearing in the Committee of the Whole on August 26th, 1957. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion.
