HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-24-57 Council Meeting MinutesREGULAR MEETING JUNE 24, 1957 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in Regular Session in the Council Chambers, Monday, June 24, 1957, at 10 :15 P.M., C.D.S.T., with all members present. The meeting was called to order by President Stanley C. Korpal, who presided. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Councilmen Korpal, Carr, Tellson, Christ*an, Kroll, Glass, Hahn, Erler and Muszynski. ABSENT: None. MINUTES: To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend that the same be approved.` Stanley C. Korpal : : G. W. Carr : Committee Julius B.Christman,Jr: Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. Motion carried. PETITION Petition of Belleville, Investment Company, Inc., to rezone a tract of land at Mayflower Road and Sample Street. REGULAR MEETING JUNE 24, 1957 Councilman Hahn made a motion that the petition be referred to the City Planning Commission. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE: To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL FUND $306.66 TO OFFICE OF CITY JUDGE ACCOUNT E -212 POSTAGE, Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion It should be recommended for passage. /s/ Stanley C. Korpal, Chairman Councilman Glass made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE: Councilman Kroll, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, made an oral report-in which he stated that he had received copies of Ordinances governing truck routes from other cities and that his Committee was studying them and hoped to complete their study shortly. Councilman Muszynski made a'motion that the Board of Works and Safety be instructed to enforce the Resolution adopted regarding intra -city truck traffic. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 3702, AS AMENDED, WHICH ORDINANC IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, (Lincolnway West - -seven parcels), Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion it should be referred to the Ordinanc Committee for further study. /s/ George W. The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays. ORDINANCE NO. 4170 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2243 COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE BUILDING CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays. Councilman Carr made a motion that the Ordinance be set for public hearing on July 8, 1957. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 4172 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND CITY WATER WORKS AND TEETER SALES AND SERVICE FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE TWO AND ONE -HALF TON TRUCK FOR $2,391.74. The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Carr made a motion for sus- pension of rules. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays. The Ordinance was then given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays. Jrc)r. REGULAR MEETING 1248 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS: God in His Infinite Wisdom has called from this life ALBERT DAVID VOORDE, brother of Mayor Edward F. Voorde, and, WHEREAS: his untimely death has brought much grief and sorrow to his family, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That we, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, do hereby extend to our Mayor, Edward F. Voorde, and the entire family of Albert David Voorde, our sincere sympathy in this their deepest hour of sorrow, and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a page be set aside in the Council Records in the City of South Bend and this Resolution be copied therein and a copy duly certified by the Clerk be sent to the Mayor and his family. KORPAL, President of the Common Council The Resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays. 1249 REGULAR MEETING NEW BUSINESS JUNE 24, 1957 COUNCILMAN HAHN made a motion that the Board of Public Works and Safety be advised to make an investigation of the Gaffill Oil Company Filling Station located at South Bend Avenue and St. Louis Boulevard, and to ask the Board of Health and Fire Prevention Department to assist in the investigation. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Common Council, Councilman Kroll made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion.
