HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-27-56 Council Committee of the Whole Meeting Minutes1151 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING JUNE 27th, 1956 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole meeting, in the Council Chamber, Wednesday, June 27th, 1956, at 7:14 P.M., (C.-S.T. 8:14 P.M., C.D.S.T.) with all members present. ORDINANCE An Ordinance transferring and appropriating from Office of City Clerk C -36 Office Supplies $200.00 to C -725 Office Equipment .(typewriter) $200.00; From Fire Department, Q -11, Service Personal, $10,300.00; to Fire Department, Q -724, Motor Equipment, $5300.00 (Two passenger cars and one truck); To Fire Department, Q -726, Other Equipment, $3,000.00 (Fire Hose); To Fire Department, Q -331, Gasoline, $2,000.00, All of the Budget for the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana, for 1956, and declaring an extraordinary emergency/ Councilman Hahn Made a motion that the Ordinance go to.the Council as favorable. Motion seconded by Councilman Muszynski. Roll Call vote of 9 ayes and 0 nays. Motion carried. ORDINANCE An Ordinance of the City of South Bend, Indiana, appropriating the sum of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) to be applied to the cost of construction, reconstruction and improvement of Streets and expenses incurred in connection therewith. The Presiding Officer announced that the Council was ready to hear all taxpayers interested on the question of the necessity for•the appropriation provided for in said ordinance. Councilman Kroll made a motion to amend the ordinance as follows: (1) Delete subsection 1 of section 1. (2) Change subsection 2 of section 1 to read "Widening, pafing and re- surfacing a portion of East Jefferson Boulevard an area not less than from 26th Street to Logan Street. (3) Change subsection 3 of section 1 to read: "Widening and resurfacing a portion of Indiana Avenue." (4) Adding a new subsection to read: "Paving and resurfac- ing a portion of West Sample Street." The motion was seconded by Councilman Hahn, and carried. Councilman Erler, made a motion that the ordinance, as amended, go to the Council as favorable. Seconded by Council- man Muszynski. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays. There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Muszynski. Motion carried, and the Committee of the Whole meeting adjourned at 8 :29 P.M. ATTEST: APPROVED: CLERK
