REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 11TH, 1954
The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, not in the Council Chamber on the 11th day of October,
1954, at the hour of 9:40 P.M. in regular session in accordance with the rules of the Council.
The meeting was called to order by President, Walter C. Erler Sr., who presided.
The members of the Council were shown to be present or absent as follows:
Present: Councilmen Walter C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal,
Cloyd Bestle, Clem Niezgodski, Walter Glass,
William Hance. and Chester Muszynski.
Absent: Councilman Michael Pinter.
REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES
To the-Common Council of the City of South Bend:
Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have
inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend
that the same be approved.

REGULAR 1 EETING
PETITION TO WITHDRAW CHANGE OF ZONING
OCTOBER 11TH, 1974

Petition of St. Joseph Cemetery & Undertaking Association by its secretary to withdraw petition for change of
zoning Lot Nos. 1.075 and 1076 Third Plat Summit Place Addition and Lot No. 1130 Fourth Plat Summit Place Addition
from "B" residential and "A" height and area district to "C" Commercial. and "D" height and area.
Councilman Korpal- moved that the petition to withdraw above described zoning be accepted. Covncilinan Hahn seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance amending Sedtion 4 of Chapter 26 of Ordinance 3709
to provide for the rates of fare for taxicabs -"
Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance go to the Council
as favorable.

Reppectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance go to the Council
as favorable.

and to Salary of First Assistant Building Commissioner $623.00; from Sanitation Department XX -12 Services Personal
$2,bOO.00 to )a:- 38'"General Supplies $2,000.00; all_ of the budget for 1954 of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana
and declaring an emergency."

Public Improvement Committee for further study until November 8th.

REPORT OF BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
To the Honorable Common Council
City of South Bend
South Bend, Indiana
Gentlemen:
The petition of David T. and Patricia Rydzinski to rezone their property located at the Southeast corner of Longley
and Olive Streets, which petition was referred to your City Planning Commission under date of Sept. 20, 1954, was
set for public hearing 7 Oct. 1954. However, due to the inability of the Commission to seat a quorum, no public
hearing was held.
This petition will be heard at public hearing by your Commission on 21. Oct. 54.

RESOLUTION
Suggested Common Council Resolution and proclamation by Mayor;
;'ITEREAS, retail._ merchandi zing is an im-portant and vital_ factor in the economic life of the city of South B nd,
and
WHEREAS, South Bend has developed into a business and trading area for a large section of northern Indi.na and
southern Michigan, comprising more than one million persons, and_
WHEREAS, 4 REAS, Robertson's Department Store has played a leading -role in the development of high standards of retail
merchandizing and has served the shopping needs of the citizens of South Bend for 50 years, and
WHER=S, Robertson's Department S':;ore has been a dynamic factor in the growth and progress of the downtown shopping'
area of South Bend and has been in the forefront of improvements in service and convenience to the
shopping public,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of South Bend hereby commend Robertson's Depart -!
men- Store and all its people on their achievements and salute the Robertson organization on this observance
of its Golden Anniversary, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Counci'_ authorize the Mayor to present to the Robertson organization a
suitable commemoration of this resolution, embodying these commendations and conveying to Robertson's
De- Dartment Store best wishes for many more years of success and service.

UIFINISHED BUSINESS
Councilman Niezgodski moved that the Parent-Teacher's Association and parents interested on the proposed curfew
ordinance be invited to attend the Council meeting on October 18th.at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chamber.
Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried.
There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn, which motion was
seconded by Councilman Niezgodski. Motion carried, and the Council adjourned at 10:20 P.M.
