Chamber on the 13th day of September, 1954, at the hour of 8 :14 P.M. in regular session in accordance with the rules of the Council* The meeting was called to order by the President, Walter C. Erler Sr., who presided* The members of the Council were shown to be present or absent as followst Present: Councilmen 'alter `C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal, Michael Pinter, Cloyd Bestle, Clem Niezgodski, Walter Glass, William Hahn and Chester Muszynski. Absents None. REPORT OF q*F1TT8Z`` ON`VINUTES To the `Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. COMMUNICATION TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: The undersigned duly licensed owners and operators of taxi -gabs in the City of South Bend respectfully petition for a raise in taxicab rates from the present level of thirty (30�) cents for the first one - fourth (1/4) mile, and five W) cents for each one - fourth (1/4) mile thereafter to thirty (30�) cents for the first one -fifth (1 /5) mile, and five (5�) cents for each one -fifth (1/5) mile thereafter. We would respectfully show as followst 1. The present taxicab rates in South Bend are lesser than the prevailing taxicab rates in ofties of comparable size and eoonomia_;situation. 2. They are not sufficient to enable the drivers of said taxicabs to earn a living wate. 3e They are, not sufficient to enable the owners and operators of taxicabs to earn a profit upon their investment and thus permit them to remain in business, 4. The undersigned constittite 118 of the owners and operators' certificates out of 122 which are issued. (328 -330 Navarre Street) The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Hahn moved for suspension of rules. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 8 ayes (Councilmen Erler, Korpal, Pinter, Bestle, Niezgodski,.Glass, Hahn and Musayynski) - 0 nays. Councilman Hahn moved that all persons affected by the transfer of funds be notified to appear at the meeting to explain the reason for the so- called transfers* Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried* NEW BUSINESS Councilman Niezgodski moved that a committee be appointed to study the creation of a measure to regulate the burning of trash and garbage. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. Motion carried. President Erler appointed Councilmen Niezgodski, Glass, Pinter and Bestle. Councilman Niezgodski moved that all city and county officials and others interested in juvenile deli4queney problems be invited to attend a meeting of the Council next Monday, September 20th, to study legislation establishing curf=ew and banning crime comics. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn, which motion was seconded by Councilman Glass.
