President Erler presided. STATE OF INDIANA ) ) SS: CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING .. CITY OF SOUTH BEND ) To the President, and members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: Gentlemen: You are hereby notified that under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by law as Mayor of the City of South Bend, in the State of Indiana, a Special Meetilig of the Common Council of said City is hereby called to meet in the Council Chamber, in the City Hall at the hour of 7 :00 P.M. Central Standard Time (8:00 P.M. C.- D.T.), on Monday, August 31st, 1953, for the purpose of considering the following ordinances, to wit: (Continued) SPECIAL MEETING "AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING MONEYS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES OF ALL BUDGET - OPERATED 'DEPARTMENTS OF THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 19549, AND ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1954, INCLUDING DEPARTMENTS, FUNDS AND COMMISSION FOR 111HICH MONEY IS APPROPRIATED, IN WHOLE OR-IN PART, FROM FUNDS OTHER THAN THE GENERAL FUNDS OF SAID CITY, TO -WIT: STREET, TRAFFIC AND PARK DEPARTMENTS, FIREMEN'S PENSION AND POLICEMEN'S PENSION FUNDS, AND THE CITY PLAN COMMISSIONt PROVIDING THAT SUCH APPROPRIATIONS SHALL INCLUDE ALL OUTSTANDING CLAIMS AND OBLIGATIONS: FIXING THE SALARIES OF ALL CITY OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES: REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH: PROVIDING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL TAKE EFFECT% ALSO "AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TAX LEVY FOR THE YEAR 1954 FOR THE MUNICIPAL CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA% The Chief of Police or any member of the Police Force is hereby directed to forthwith serve a copy of this notice on each and every member of the Common Council and make due return of such service of said Special Meeting* JOHN A. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance appropriatin moneys for the purpose of defraying the expenses of all budget - operated departments of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana, for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 1954, and ending December 31, 1954, including departments, funds and commissions for which money is appropriated, in whole or in part, from funds other than the general funds of said city, to wit: Street, Traffic and Park Departments, Firemen's Pension and Policemen's Pension Funds, and the City Plan Commission: providing that such appropriations shall include all outstanding claims and obligations: fixing the salaries of all city officials and employees: repealing all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith: providing a time when the same shall take effect% Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance go to the Council as favorable. W. A. HAHN, Chairman Councilman Glassmade a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance fixing the Tax Levy for the year 1954 for the Municipal Civil City of South Bend, Indiana% Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance go the Council favorable as amended. W. A. HAHN, Chairman Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 3938 (AS AMENDED) AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TAX LEVY FOR THE YEAR 1954 FOR THE MUNICIPAL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. The ordinance was. given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman. Pinter) , There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Niezgodski made a motion to adjourn' which motion was seconded -by Councilman Korpal.
